From 1948 to 1996, a rotating commitee of distinguished Harvard College alumni awarded annual prizes for outstanding contributions to undergraduate publications. “What we’ve established, in effect, is a collegiate Pulitzer Prize,” one member of the prize committee told the Crimson in 1961. Here’s a list of winners from the Independent.
At the anniversary reunion dinner on October 5, we plan to take a moment to recognize editors and staffers of the Independent who have died. We need the help of alumni to make sure this list is complete. To share additional names, please reach out to Wade Roush, graduate board chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why, some people have asked me, am I putting so much time into fundraising and support for The Harvard Independent, an organization where I spent a few years working as a student reporter and editor more than three decades ago? There are many answers. Mostly, I’m just stubborn.
